“Our local kiwifruit industry stands to gain from the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement “  said Coromandel MP Scott Simpson.

Its great news that when the TPP takes effect it will remove tariffs on kiwifruit into
all 12 Asia-Pacific nations.

The biggest impact will be seen in Japan when in 2014 the kiwifruit industry paid over $15 million in tariffs.

Annual sales volumes to Japan are expected to increase around 10 percent over the next five years.

“This is fantastic news for the future of the kiwifruit industry , which is set to earn nearly $2 billion in sales revenue this season.

“The  TPP  paints a very positive future for horticulture generally by generating thousands of jobs and billions of overseas earnings” said Mr Simpson.
