“Be Safe this duck shooting season” says Coromandel MP Scott Simpson

Tuesday, May 3, 2016

Have fun but be safe is the message Coromandel MP Scott Simpson is sending to duck shooters ahead of the season opening this Saturday.

“There is nothing quite like opening day and this year there will be huge numbers of both locals and visitors shooting from early on Saturday morning. I want everyone to have a good time but to make sure that all the safety rules are obeyed.

“Access to traditional hunting spots on farm dams, rivers and creeks are not changed by new workplace safety laws. But that said, shooters do have an obligation to take care, be vigilant and to maintain awareness of what is happening around them at all times” said Mr Simpson.

In past years there have been too many incidents involving shooters not taking basic precautions or adhering to simple safety rules.

“Let’s plan to have safe season not just for the locals but our visitors as well” said Scott Simpson.
