MP Scott Simpson congratulates local youth award winner Billy Turner
MP Scott Simpson has congratulated Billy Turner for receiving a 2016 Youth Award at Parliament today.
“I am delighted Billy has been recognised for his outstanding contribution to the community.
Billy (17 years) has volunteered with the NZ Fire Service since he was 10 as he has aspired to be a fire fighter since he can remember. Billy has now been a fire-fighter for the Tairua and Whangamata brigades now for almost 2 years. Billy is also a member of the coastguard and the Land Search and Rescue for 3 years.” Said Scott Simpson..
“I’ve been really impressed with the work Billy has been doing and have seen his efforts first hand when visiting the Tairua brigade on several occasions. These awards are a great initiative that recognise young people doing great things, and also those who support or champion young people,” says Scott Simpson.
“All up there are nine award categories, which celebrate qualities such as leadership and the creation of positive change in areas from the arts and culture to sport and the environment.
“There are 45 award recipients from around New Zealand, so it was great to see Billy Turner from Tairua in Parliament today.
“A large number of nominations was received for this year’s awards, which shows there’s no shortage of young people out there doing great work, as well as others prepared to give young people the support they need to help them reach their goals,” says Scott Simpson.
Details of award recipients and more information about the 2016 Youth Awards are available on the Ministry of Youth Development’s website.
