“I’m really pleased to have been appointed by Prime Minister Bill English to the role of Parliamentary Private Secretary for Environment and Conservation” said Coromandel MP Scott Simpson.

“My new role as set out by the Prime Minister is to help build strong links between the Ministers for the Environment, of Conservation and the conservation and environmental communities nationwide. The role fits perfectly with the work I do as Chair of Parliament’s Local Government and Environment select committee” said Mr Simpson.

“These are policy areas that are a natural fit for me as MP for Coromandel plus they are areas I have a personal interest too. I will be working even more closely with Environment Minister Nick Smith and Conservation Minister Maggie Barry than I already do” said Mr Simpson.

“In the conservation portfolio I am particularly interested in helping develop and support the government’s goal of a predator free New Zealand by 2050 and the huge efforts that scientists and conservationists are making to achieve this. The response from around New Zealand and in the Coromandel to the Predator Free ambition has been hugely positive” said Mr Simpson.
